The challenge in this case was to blend the Murphy bed into a cohesive cabinetry design providing storage and display for various collections and allowing the room to function as an office, entertainment center and occasional guest bedroom. Elements of Japanese architecture and furniture design were used in an attempt to imply but not imitate their origin.
