Over many years of designing, building and learning from mistakes, the concept that form follows function has always made sense to me. It has actually liberated me from imitating other solutions and furniture styles. Function addresses not only mechanical aspects but also hand and eye appeal. An ugly piece isn’t apt to be used as much no matter how well it functions mechanically.
Conversely, a pretty piece of wood is just that. I try to use the characteristics of the wood to complement the design rather than rely on its beauty alone. My design ideas come from a variety of sources: some from nature, some from art or architecture, and some from a strange corner of my imagination.
Above all, I have fun building furniture and hope that anyone using my work will share that joy.
